At Seven Days Sunny Child Care, I believe in creating an environment that cultivates opportunities for littles to explore, create, learn, and grow. Having grown up first-generation American on my father's side and second-generation on my mother's side, our household was very traditionally European. This style of upbringing instilled in me hard work, discipline, independence, and strong social etiquette. As I've grown older, my appreciation for this approach to parenting grew as I realized that I had the confidence within myself to do whatever I set my mind to. I gained that confidence largely to knowing that I always had the support and encouragement from my family to pursue my dreams and hobbies. It is my goal to provide the same nourishing environment for my daughters and other children to understand those fundamental principles.
Allowing children to make mistakes, learn through failures to adapt and try again, and persevere while cheering them on every step of the way, gives children an opportunity to gain self-confidence and learn to evaluate risk over reward; those skills are imperative to navigating this world as they get older. I also believe in teaching littles the importance of social etiquette, saying please and thank you, setting healthy boundaries for themselves including the word "no", and recognizing emotions in order to regulate them in a healthy way. I work to do this by using tools leading childhood psychologists provide, and adapting to each individual child's needs. I strive to stay up to date with leading childhood psychology research, and understanding each stage of human development from birth onward.
Lastly, I believe that the true essence of childhood is getting down and dirty while having fun. Children should be able to explore their environments with all of their senses* inside and outside. Sensory play is integral to neural development, developing motor skills, cultivating creativity, and problem solving abilities. The great outdoors provides fresh air for littles to use their senses, while also helping regulate the nervous system, releasing energy, promoting imaginative play, boosting the immune system, and aiding in better sleep at night (every parent's dream!) Besides, who doesn't have fun making messes? Plus, cleaning the mess up provides opportunity to work together and ask for help - two more important life lessons!
Investing in the betterment of our future, starts with doing our very best for our children.
